Kinja'd!!!

Guess who lost this one....If you guessed this fucking retard, go fucking figure. Probably deserved it for whatever reason that I just can’t win at anything in life right now.

Long story short, I was depressed after seeing a picture of previous love interest. Something snapped inside me and I decided I’d go for a drive to take my mind off things. I message a friend asking if he wants to go hoon in a snowy parking lot and when we get there, it looked just fantastic! Packed snow and icy spots that I assumed were solid.

Turns out one spot wasn’t so solid and when I drive on top of it getting ready to pull the handbrake, the car went straight through it; the large chunks of ice having their way with the front end as I came to a halt. But I didn’t know the extent of the damage until 5 minutes later when my friend put his headlights on the front of my car and saw what you see now.

Kinja'd!!!

The bumper is cracked, split, and broken in many spots. The fog lights are pushed so far inside the car that a regular flashlight looks brighter, and my horn sounds like a jalopy horn and much quiter than before. The chunks of ice gave the car a “Glasgow Smile”...

This is only gonna look better in morning and when I canget enough money to fix this....if I ever get the money to fix this. I’m gonna say bye to the tax refund check before it even gets here. I took the damage surprisingly well when I first saw it. I wasn’t fazed by it at all. And even stranger, my dad wasn’t pissed. It’s just a car after all. It can be fixed, and while my bank account may very well kill itself, and any future car plans I may have had my be set back forever because of my duck up, I’m still alive and breathing....woohoo

But because I know I deserved this for whatever reason and the ridicule and mockery to come, and the depression of what I’ve done (again) will eventually set in later tonight, go on and do your worst to make me feel like shit. I might as well change my name to “K-Roll-Silvestro2.0".

I’ve done a good amount of damage to some bumpers, drift stitches are actually a pretty solid option

If it wasn’t for the fact that I was planning on replacing the car in a year or two, it would’ve been a solid idea...

Even if its just temporary until finances are more suited to buying a new bumper Id go for it. Put some money away for it and buy a new bumper once you get closer to replacing it. Doing it now just gives you more time to damage it again!

Stitches are still a good idea, if only to keep the cracks from spreading. Plastic bumper covers get replaced, not repaired, so a few zip ties aren’t going ruin future repairs.

I don’t even have money to put away for anything. Finances will only be more suited once I get a higher paying job or something which at this rate, would be a fucking miracle hidden in Fort Knox. Oh well, now I look like I’m from Detroit with a hoopty beater Focus.

Part of me wishes it was more “live and die” whether or not the depressed side of me is talking now, I’m pretty sure my wallet went and killed itself forever.

Sure, better this car than the 911 or 944, doesn’t make it that much better though.

Way less embarassing than the time I understeered in a curb at like 2mph and managed to totally fuck up the alignment on my car.

Blue duck tape?

I mean, it’ll somewhat help. Start saving up for a new bumper (maybe even one with a splitter) or just let it sit and focus on the 944.

I was gonna get a different car in a year or two to replace the ST. Can’t get rid of the car, or go to a car show or any meet whatsoever now with it looking like this. There goes any form of being social this year. All the money I was planning on using for the 944 is now gonna have to be put into the ST, and if there’s a god, only he knows how long it’ll take to get that much money. Sucks being young and broke pretty much all the time.

I don’t think blue duck tape exists though.

Kinja'd!!!0

Well it’s a Focus, and you may be right, depending on the Porsche. The new bumper will cost about $380 before paint and whatnot, I’ll need new foglights and covers, and who knows what else underneath....

Kinja'd!!! Flavien Vidal > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
02/26/2016 at 02:34

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah that’s the problem with modern cars... lots of things INSIDE bumpers... If I have to change bumpers on my hold cars, I spend 300$ for a new one, 150$ for paint and there I go, fixed! Next time you go hoon on ice, take the Porsche haha :)

In all fairness, your fog lights might not be broken... It’s very much possible for the mounts to have snaped. A new bumper and you’ll be able to mount them back.

If you haven’t read up on or done CBT, you ought to. You seem to be consistently ‘catastrophizing’ (keyword/tricky phrase, read a few articles on it and other cognitive distortions). There are techniques to lessen and eventually rid yourself of that...was a true life saver for me back in my college days.

I also have depression. I’m sorry and I hope this doesn’t offend you and I’m going to be blunt. I think if you aren’t already you need to get some professional help. Your college probably has someone you can talk to for free. I’m in college right now too and I don’t think I would be alive right now if I hadn’t got some help. It’s not something to be ashamed of, its treatment.

I think your in a similar headspace as I was with the future car thing where you think that the next car will be the only thing to make you happy. For me that wasn’t really the problem but something I made myself believe was the problem.

My therapist helps me to see things like this and to work though issues so that I can move on from them. A therapist could help you to move on from your previous love interest so that you could stop ruminating on it and instead use that energy on other things.

I'm sorry that this happened to you and hope things will improve soon. I'm sorry if this was too far but I hate to see people struggling like I was and wanted to try to help.

Oh man, I did almost the exact same thing last week in my Focus, but it wasn’t the hooning that got me in trouble, it was responsibly pulling over to the side of the road to answer texts. After texting back, I went to pull away and forgot that I pulled in behind an ice berm. it was the perfect shape to allow me to drive right up it until the front wheels were off the ground. 2 hours with a shovel later and I got it down, with a bumper that looks very close to yours. The SE version has different fog lights though, so it was really just the bottom lip that got messed up.

Jeez dude. Everybody messes up and I don’t think anyone wants to ridicule you for making a mistake. Shit happens to everybody, the only difference is in how you react to it. You have two great cars which are fun to drive, which is more than most people. Yeah, one of them needs a new bumper cover, so start saving.

I have a shitty base Acura rsx with an automatic transmission. I’ve slid into an ice bank and had to replace suspension parts on it before. But guess what? It still gets me to work every day. I’ve worked 40+ hours per week the entire time I’ve been in college so I can actually be in college. Sometimes my social life is nonexistent, but hey, that’s life.

Since you can’t afford to replace your bumper cover now, try to get more hours at work, do side jobs, etc. Life is full of learning experiences (aka shit), so learn from them. Letting them control your happiness isn’t worth it.

Use your emotions to help better yourself.

What I mean by that is, when I’d get all emo over a girl, I’d turn that into anger and then go lift weights. Lifting weights builds both muscle and confidence. The ladies like both of those things.

I feel your pain, I once clipped a snow bank in my old 3, was too tired to drive, shattered the bumper, never fixed it actually. I’m still waiting for the wife’s CX-9 to come back from the body shop after causing 3k worth of damage sliding into a tree at 5mph in a snow storm.

In terms of fixing it, that bumper is trash (sorry) there is no nice fixing plastic so you might as well drift stitch or take the bumper off and use a soldering iron and some extra plastic to weld it all together on the inside. The paint wont look pretty but it will work.

Honestly the Damage looks bad but I wouldn’t be too concerned, the horn is probably just packed with ice and having a cracked bumper is no reason not to go to events. I take a CX-9 to events since I do not have a nice car anymore. I took my old 6 burning oil and smashed up, go out and hang out. Enjoy the damage as a badge of pride, look at it this way, it already cracked you can’t make it worse.

Or hide this post and claim someone backed into your car and report it to the insurance. :shifty eyes:

Your insurance would probably cover it although with that you may get increased rates and a ding on the carfax as well when you have it fixed you would also have to cough up the deductible which may still be an option.

Do you think you get a high paying job just by complaining about needing one?

I’m going to be brutally honest with you: You need to check your attitude. Even if you graduate with a good degree, a good GPA, good extracurriculars, etc. companies want people with good attitudes. I’m taking a class called Organizational Behavior in my MBA program right now, it discusses attitude and its effect on job performance. The attitude you exhibit is the complete opposite of where you need to be. If you’re going to blame every problem you have on the world being out to get you, you won’t last in a professional environment. You seem to take any difficulty and get wrapped up in it instead of fixing the problem.

Step one to adjusting your attitude is to stop coming to oppo crying ‘woe is me’ anytime something bad happens to your cars, especially when it’s YOUR fault. It’s not the world’s fault you hit a snowbank too hard while fucking around in a frozen parking lot, it’s yours. Own it. You fucked up, now fix it. Don’t have the money? Get a job. Already have a job? Get more hours. Can’t get more hours? Cut back on other things. Still can’t afford it? Sell the fucking car. Crying won’t fix shit. Just get it done.

sounds like a pattern... you should take a driving course and consider the consequences before hooning. If you can’t afford to fix stuff if it goes wrong, you should be more careful with what you have. Also might want to consider getting something without a payment you can hoon all you want and not care if it gets bruises, like a missile or something.

I feel your pain. In college, I was dropping off a girl at her house in my 1990 civic, and, being winter, plus knowing how much girls love e-brake turns, I pulled one into the parking lot... misjudged and slammed into an icy snowbank with the right side of the car. I was able to drive out of it, but had to get out and pry the door open to let her out. She was... not impressed.

My “repair” was pretty fabulous, though. I took the car to the Buildings & Grounds dept. and asked for a scrap of wood and a sledgehammer. Raising MANY eyebrows, they obliged and then ALL came out to see what I could possibly be doing to my car with these tools. The average student at my school drove his or her daddy’s “old” audi, bmw, or jeep grand cherokee, no more than 4-5 years old, and probably didn’t know how to pop the hood. My civic was 12 years old at the time. Using the tools kindly supplied to me by my curious audience, I gently caressed the metal back into a shape that allowed my door to open and close without excessive force, and went on with my day.

OH and I definitely ripped both bumpers off that car at different times, with much creativity going into the repairs each time.

Because I bought a high milage Ford and this was bound to happen, even if it wasn’t because I was being an idiot. Chiming chains break on old 4.6's. As much as it hurts, this sort of thing happens, especially when hooning. It’s part of the risk, you should accept that. Being that it’s a relatively minor aesthetic issue, fog lights notwithstanding (though I have never encountered a situation where I *needed* fog lights), I don’t understand the huge issue. Sure, it’ll be ugly for a while, but you still have running, driving, pretty damn fun daily transportation, as well as a classic Porsche 944 in your garage. Roll with it. #nofcksgivenfiesta. You have it far better than you think, and at your age this sort of attitude really isn’t acceptable. What do you think the professional environment is like? Because I know, as a member of a professional environment, that you have to take a lot of shit. I mean a lot. Heaping loads of insults, questions on your behavior, character, sexual orientation, and some people who go out of their way to question every single thing you do. You might even work for some of them, since as they say “shit floats to the top”. The thing is, you can’t really complain about it. Sure, there are HR departments, but many places will simply let you go if you rock the boat too much, and even if they don’t it’s not the best way to make friends. Thick skin and a healthy sense of humor gets you far in the world. If you can’t take criticism it will eat you alive.

I’ve dealt with many of my own demons, mental health issues, I still have untreated severe ADHD and neurotic disorder. I deal. I laugh at the stupid hurtful jokes, I shoot back with my own insults, then I go watch YouTube when I get home and look at my bank account balance. Some of my coworkers are asshats, some of my bosses are tools. I’ve been here 7 months and I feel like I’m managing better and better each day. In your situation I feel the first thing you should do is seek professional help. I don’t mean that to be insulting, but with how much you demand the attention and opinions of strangers on the internet it would do you good to get the opinion of someone who might see or know something us internet strangers don’t, and might be able to help you improve yourself with either advice, or meds, or, I dunno, yoga. The second thing is stop. Stop immediately posting “woe is me” on the internet when something happens. Such as this. You could have said “Was hooning around in a snowy parking lot and hit some ice. Shit happens #hooniganlyfe” and it would have been a good-humored tale instead of a woe-is-me production.

I’m not posting this out of hatred, just mild annoyance at someone who could vastly improve their life by changing their outlook and possibly getting help. It frustrates me that you torture yourself with the negativity that you display on Oppo instead of seeing the bright side, having a laugh, and cracking open a brewski. Life is long. There is a lot of time to make mistakes, and even more time to bounce back from them.

Get bouncing.

Embrace it man. Let it be the rally car it was born to be. Stitch it up with zip ties and be proud of actually hooning unlike all the garage queens that show up to cars and coffee. It’s not like you understeered into a fire hydrant in a dry mall parking lot because you were on your phone, I think you can wear this as battle damage proudly.

You can also think of it as a security feature, park in sketchy neighborhoods with a little more piece of mind!
